Artist Statement -
Fused glass pieces are my way of capturing mental snapshots I’ve taken throughout my life. Glass is the perfect medium to express lasting images of those memories. Many of my pieces reflect color schemes, patterns and shadowing, frequently found in nature.
I begin each piece starting with a focal element and work outward until the plate is the desired size and shape. By incorporating Spectrum 96 glass powders, stringers, confetti and rods as well as sheet glass, I can create multifaceted color combinations. Geometric and organic pattern bars are often visible in much of my work. Slumping molds, fiberboard and metal reliefs allow me to achieve texture and dimension for many of my pieces. Coldworking is an integral part in my creative process. Grinding, sandblasting, as well as, polishing provide the finishing details making each plate or platter a unique work of art.
I’ve been a glass artist for approximately three years. I’ve studied fused glass at Helios Glass Studios in Austin Texas and lampworking beads at Glass Act in Ft. Walton Beach Florida. In 2010, I had the opportunity to design a studio and open my own company, Gray Ghost Glassworks. I am proud to announce that in February 2011, I became a member of The National Capital Art Glass Guild (NCAGG).
My week is dedicated to creating and on the weekends I can be found attending various shows in Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania.
